The Delta Ladies duo and their band
They present a truly memorable selection of good-time music, drawn from the treasury of American roots music, rhythm & blues, swing & blues, rock ‘n roll, and skiffle- all blended into a highly entertaining show.
These ‘lovely London Ladies of ‘doubtful origin’ are Diana Stone – piano, fiddle and Vicky Martin
– guitars ukulele and Candela. The Ladies have played througout the UK & Europe and have shared stages with Larry Garner, Larry Miller, Chris Farlowe, Jerry Donahue, Linda Gail Lewis,Hans Theesink, Earl Jackson, Tim Aves and Gwyn Ashton. The Delta Ladies are synonymous with good music, good humour and brilliant entertainment.
DELTA LADIES – Biography
The DELTA LADIES are Vicky Martin & Diana Stone. Vicky plays Guitar, Dulcimer, and Bouzouki. Diana plays Piano, Fiddle and Accordion. On occasion they augment the duo with Lee Collins – percussion / drums, and Rob Charles – bass to become the DELTA LADIES BAND (formerly Elephant Shelf).
The DELTA LADIES play ‘Good-time music’ an eclectic mix of classic rhythm & blues, swing and jive, vintage rock ‘n roll and bluegrass.
The DELTA LADIES have played hundreds of shows in the UK and Europe, including shows at London’s world famous 100 Club, the Famous Eel Pie Club (home of British Blues), they appeared with French Band AWEK at the Blues at Beziers Festival, and were backing band for Linda Gail Lewis (Jerry Lee’s sister).
The DELTA LADIES have a glowing reputation for varied entertaining shows. Diana Stone’s fiddle showcases are a special highlight; particularly Neil Young’s ‘Like a Hurricane’, Dylan’s ‘All Along the Watchtower’ and Americana classics ‘Orange Blossom Special’ and ‘Mystery Train’. Shows include R&B & Swing tunes from Fats Domino, Ray Charles, Louis Jordan, T Bone Walker, and a selection of American roots music on traditional Appalachian instruments.
Several noted musicians have played with the DELTA LADIES at various times including; Alan Glen (Yardbirds), Tony Reeves (John Mayall, John Martyn), Art Themen (Stan Tracey), Louis Cennamo (Renaissance), Rafael Ravenscroft (Baker Street- Gerry Rafferty / Pink Floyd – Dark Side of the Moon), Robin Bibi, Gwyn Ashton, Nick Newell (Zoot Money).
The DELTA LADIES launched their second album ‘They Can’t Take Away My Rock & Roll’ at London’s 100 Club earlier this year and are currently working on a new duo album for release later this year; this will include several surprise guests; to be announced later.
